  1. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Matthew - Posted on 12 March 2024

I wanted to leave a review to thank the staff at Kings in both A&E and the ACU and cardiology wards. I had chest pain on Sunday night and was advised by 111 to go to A&E for some tests which were booked at 4am. I arrived almost an hour early, was seen straight away and had blood tests, ECGs and X-rays completed quickly and efficiently. All the staff were brilliant and put me at ease and I was discharged within 2 and a half hours of arrival with an diagnosis and advised to return to the ACU in the morning. The next morning’s experience in ACU was similarly efficient and friendly. I was seen almost straight away upon arrival at 8.20am for tests, and the doctor managed to arrange a cardiac scan for that morning. By 1pm, I had been tested, assessed, given a care plan and discharged home, receiving follow up calls to ensure that I understood everything. I cannot fault the staff or experience and it was a reminder to me just how valuable and important the NHS is, and how reassuring staff can be when you are worried. Yes, there was a little waiting around for tests - but in a busy hospital this was nowhere near as bad as I had expected, and all the clinical staff and admin staff were brilliant. Thank you!

  3. Review titled Ward care

Rated 1 star out of 5

After my father had his operation to remove his pancreas and spleen the after care he received on Dawson ward was diabolical. I cannot believe I’ve been so naive in thinking these people were meant to care for patients, my dad aswell as others possibly was so neglected it was shocking . They didn’t care if he ate , drank, got out of bed etc etc the list is enormous, these nurses were on there just to get paid no compassion what’s so ever , most terrible experience of all our families life .

  4. Review titled Long wait times rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

Was referred to A&E to get my appendix checked after experiencing severe pain. Wasn’t even enough seats for everyone when I first arrived so had to stand in pain, wait 5+ hours and if I or anyone else asked the person on Urgent Care Reception a thing, she would be rude, dismissive and a general lack of respect towards patients. I’d recommend going elsewhere if possible.

  5. Review titled Extremely empathetic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elisabetta Boncompagni - Posted on 15 October 2023

From a couple of days I was suffering from acute loose motion, even taken medication my condition does not improve so yesterday morning I referred to the emergency of King’s College Hospital. The nurse who looked after me was extremely empathetic, helpful and polite and the waiting time in the reception area was even lower that the estimated time written on the board, well done to everyone and massive thank you!

  6. Review titled A wonderful team in the Cardiac Catheter Suite

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stephen Kaile - Posted on 27 October 2023

I attended the unit to have a pacemaker implanted. I was looked after by a wonderful team of health care assistants, nurses, doctors & the consultant. I would call out each individually if I knew all their names, but they are all deserving of the highest praise in the way they tended to me throughout my day surgery.

Yesterday, afternoon, I was referred by an optician to King's College Hospital ophthalmology department. a Doctor saw me within 20 minutes of my arrival was able to diagnose a small retinal tear and carry out successful laser treatment all within an hour. I was deeply impressed with the Doctor's professionalism, care and attention to duty. Please pass on my thanks to the whole department.

  8. Review titled Terrible waits, poor practice and unsuitable clinic

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

Attended A&E with possible ankle fracture and worried about having blood clot symptoms. Took 7 hours to be seen by a nurse who told me my details had been taken down wrongly and that I needed to see an ENT instead. 2 hours longer than person who checked in at same time also with ankle problems. No staff at reception to give updates since provision privatised, quite worrying as I was on my own if I’d felt faint no-one would be there. Signs on boards said injury waits were 2.5 to 3.5 hours but clearly wrong. Nowhere in clinic to get food if you’re on your own without potentially missing your slot. Other patients treated poorly. One chemo patient at risk of sepsis was sent to wrong department only realised when his wife complained. Utter chaos, and I’ve not even been sent for an X-ray yet over 8 hours after coming…

  9. Review titled Today's blood test was pleasant

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 July 2023

I went in early for a blood test. The nurse explained that he was a student. He carried out the task perfectly well and I was left happy. What I need to also comment on is that at the main entrance there is a generous supply of facemasks left on display for the general public. The masks have no protective cover to them to keep them virus-free from passing coughs and sneezes; I thought that was unbelievable. Hope someone does something about this.

  10. Review titled Amazing people at paediatric A&E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 31 July 2023

We bought my son in at 8am 29.07.23. We had been to urgent care and another a &e the night before and they had told us to come to kings the following day. It had already been a very long night and my 10 Yr old was exhausted. We were seen by the nurse quickly but were informed we could have a long wait to see the max fax specialist. During our wait we were twice asked if we wanted tea by a lovely King's volunteer. We were also approached by the health play specialist who was present in the waiting room for the duration of our visit. She was able to give us an update on where the specialist was and how long we might still have to wait... I watched this lady talk to every family who came in... trying to make their experience of the hospital a little better. When we were finally called in to see the specialist a swift decision and treatment (stitches) was recommended. The play specialist joined us for this and spent the time trying to distract both me and my son from the work of the doctor... Noting it was my sons birthday, after the stitches were done a small gift for him was produced and the 3 staff sang him happy birthday... I was absolutely amazed, as was my son, it was so lovely... This is what children's healthcare should always look like... 🥰 An unpleasant start to his birthday made so special by the very, very good and skilled people at Kings paediatric a&e...
